Irwin Borough Manager Shari Martino (left) and Assistant Manager Stacie Santimyer hold a basket of plastic Easter eggs with the golden egg, that they plan to hide for the Irwin Easter Egg Hunt that will run from March 22 to 26 in downtown Irwin.

Irwin will hold an Easter Egg hunt from March 22 to 26 that will give children ages two to 12 from Irwin, North Huntingdon and North Irwin the opportunity to win prizes.

Borough office employees will hide the plastic eggs along Main, Third, Fourth and Fifth streets and Irwin Park and Dan Rose Park, said Shari Martino, borough manager. The eggs will not be hidden inside any business, Martino said.

“We do hope this brings traffic into the downtown area and this helps promote the businesses. It’s a great opportunity to bring families into the park to enjoy what Irwin offers with the new playground,” Martino said.

Each egg contains a message telling the finder to go to the borough offices at 424 Main St., for a prize. The eggs and messages are numbered to correspond with a prize and the office will keep a record of where the egg was hidden, Martino said. That should prevent any attempt at presenting a “fake” egg in an attempt to get a prize.

Proof of residency will be required by a parent or guardian for a child to receive the prize. Only one prize per child.

The finder of a golden egg will receive a basket of prizes. Martino said she hopes to receive a sufficient number of donations to fill it with $150 worth of prizes. All unclaimed prizes will be the property of the borough.

The deadline for returning the eggs is March 26. Those who find an egg but can not go to the office before it closes at 4 p.m., can call the borough office at 724-864-3100 to make arrangements to get their prize, Martino said.

Borough employees hid 45 eggs in 2019, but the Easter Egg hunt was canceled last year because of covid-related restrictions.

“We are hoping to increase the amount of eggs we hide each year,” Martino said.

Those interested in donating to the Easter egg hunt can call the borough office at 724-864-3100.
