The new owner of a Sunoco convenience store-gas station along Route 30 in Irwin is seeking approval from borough officials to permit him to transfer a liquor license from Scottdale in order to sell alcohol at his station.

Irwin council has scheduled a public hearing for 6 p.m. July 14 on the request from S&D Oil Co. of Upper St. Clair to transfer the license to the company’s Sunoco station at 9616 Route 30, which is adjacent to the Conley Inn.

The liquor license is held by Bartley Enterprises Inc. of 315 N. Broadway St., Scottdale, which is the site of Marc II Bar & Lounge, according to the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board. The LCB lists the license, which expires in June 2022, as being in “safekeeping,” which indicates the licensee currently is not selling alcohol, said Shawn Kelly, an LCB spokesman.

Shital Lathia, president of S&D Oil, purchased the three parcels on which the gas station-convenience stores sits, from Patels Realty LLC for $610,000 in June, according to documents filed with the Westmoreland County Recorder of Deeds. Lathia obtained a $600,000 mortgage for the property.

Lathia could not be reached for comment.

Speaking in general terms pertaining to the transfer of a liquor license, Kelly said the LCB would review the design of the property where the alcohol will be sold and would inspect the premises, as well as the documentation for transferring the license.
