How does a community hold a celebration of picnic food — hot dogs, hamburgers, kielbasa, tacos and nachos — when the state’s covid-19 requirements prohibit large gatherings of people?

Since people can meet virtually, but not eat virtually, the All American Picnic Food Fest in Irwin will feature food from about 14 of the town’s restaurants from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., July 18, or until the closings of the eateries. Establishments along Main Street , from the Cheesecake Caffe to Brandy’s on Main, will offer diners the choice of eating inside, outside or takeout. There will not be any food trucks involved, according to the Irwin Business & Professional Association, which is sponsoring the event.

A limited number of vendors will sell crafts in the downtown parking lots at Second, Third and Fifth streets.
