Two Jeannette art outlets are combining forces to help shoppers find handmade, local, one-of-a-kind items for holiday gift-giving.
From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, visitors to downtown Jeannette will find chalk footprints leading from You Are Here art gallery at 406 Clay Ave. to The Glass City at 301 Clay Ave.
“Off the Wall,” the annual cash-and-carry show and sale opens that day at You Are Here, while The Glass City will offer 10% off the sale of one item, 15% off two items and 20% off three or more items. Gift certificates for stained glass classes also will be available.
“This will be a nice sharing of our audiences,” said You Are Here co-founder Mary Briggs. “It will be nice for people who come to be able to do more than one thing.”
“It’s kind of like my Black Friday,” said Amy Jo Davis, co-owner of The Glass City.
The gift shop offers “anything stained glass,” Davis said, with prices from $3.99 for ornaments to $3,000 for stained glass panels and light boxes.
Saturday sale items will include sun-catchers, candle holders and a variety of Christmas decorative items.
“There’s something for everyone,” Davis said.
About two dozen area artists will be represented in the Off the Wall show, Briggs said, with a roughly half-an-half mix of fine art and crafts. Items suitable for gift-giving include jewelry, pottery, crochet work, greeting cards and prints.
“We have a lot more 3D work this year than we usually do,” she said.
Pieces submitted for You Are Here’s UpCycle Challenge, made using random art supplies from the gallery’s Oh Scrap! market, will be on display. Visitors will be able to vote for their favorite piece, with winner to be announced in December.
There also will be a silent auction for a bench made of recycled materials and painted by participants in the gallery’s MAD*LAB community art initiative.
“It’s a fundraiser to pay the artists who worked on the project,” Briggs said.
“We’re excited to see how this works with The Glass City,” she said, noting that if it’s a success, it could be expanded next year to include other Jeannette businesses and restaurants.
