Jeannette residents can now sign up for the city’s new text message program that was approved by council this month.

Anyone who wants to join should email their name and cell phone number to abeneke@cityofjnt.com. Those who sign up will start getting messages once the system is in place.

Council this month approved a one-year contract with Simple Texting for about $590. The text message program will be used to disseminate information to residents about city news, such as delays in garbage collection.

Depending on the resident’s cellphone plan and carrier, they may be charged for messages. Anyone signing up should check with their carrier.
