Jeannette man found with drugs, gun during traffic stop in Madison
A Jeannette man is being held without bail after police said they found $1,800, a gun and 250 grams of marijuana in the car he was driving, according to court papers.
El-Hajj Malik Turner, 27, was pulled over Friday at 7 p.m. after Southwest Regional police clocked him driving 42 mph in a 25 mph zone on Main Street in Madison, according to court papers.
He is charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, drug offenses, speeding and driving while operating privilege is suspended.
Police said they noticed a strong odor of marijuana coming from the car after they stopped Turner and his female passenger. During a search, police found the marijuana, pistol, three Oxycodone pills, two packages of THC wax and THC cartridges, as well as items typically used in the packaging and sale of drugs. The cash was found in Turner’s pockets, according to court papers.
The passenger has not been charged. Turner told investigators the items belong to him and that he was selling marijuana earlier, according to court papers. He is being held in the Westmoreland County Prison.
A preliminary hearing is set for Monday. Turner did not have an attorney listed in online court records.
