A Jeannette man was ordered to serve up to 23 months in jail for the burglary of three medical offices at Excela Health in Greensburg.

Travis Michael Gibson, 37, pleaded guilty this week to charges to felony burglary and trespassing offenses, as well as misdemeanor theft, criminal mischief and receiving stolen property counts, in connection with the break-ins Dec. 6 at doctors’ offices at Excela’s Shearer Street facility.

According to court records, Gibson kicked in three doors, searched desks and ransacked offices. Police said he stole a laptop computer, Pittsburgh Steelers hoodie, nonprescription pain relievers and a cup of loose change.

Security video showed a man wearing black clothes and a ball cap breaking into the offices, police said.

Gibson was identified as the suspect the next day after police obtained a picture of a man in black clothing attempting to sell the stolen laptop at the Pawn & Jewelry Exchange on East Pittsburgh Street in Greensburg.

In court on Monday, Westmoreland County Common Pleas Court Judge Christopher Feliciani sentenced Gibson to serve 9 to 23 months in jail and ordered him to repay Excela nearly $1,200 in restitution. Gibson was ordered to have no contact with the hospital facility unless he is there for medical care.

Gibson has been in jail since his arrest and told the judge he had been addicted to heroin for at least five years before the burglary. He will be eligible for early parole to an inpatient drug treatment program on May 4.

“This is a mitigated sentence to get the defendant into treatment as soon as possible,” Feliciani said.
