Jeannette plans more than $300K in street paving projects
Jeannette is doubling its annual paving project to tackle sections of seven streets.
Council on Tuesday approved a $321,000 bid from Derry Construction that chief fiscal officer Ethan Keedy said will be paid through liquid fuels money and American Rescue Plan funding.
“This is hopefully the first of many street projects that we can do,” he said.
The project includes sections of Arch, North Second and Thompson streets; Bennett, Frank and Ellsworth avenues; and Elliott Street Extension.
City engineer Ed Antonacci said he estimated the cost for the work to be much higher.
“We got a really fantastic price,” he said.
Some of the streets haven’t been paved for at least 40 years. City officials would like to get roads on a rotating paving schedule to help keep them maintained in the future and for residents to know when their street might be up for replacement.
City public works crews took care of inlets and vegetation on the streets in preparation for the work. The contractor can begin April 24. The work must be completed by May 26, Antonacci said.
