Jeannette plans to reduce the length of time members of its recreation board serve, the second change this year to the body that plans activities.

Councilman Chad Krawtz said changes proposed in an ordinance would reduce five-year terms to three years.

“The board decided that a five-year term was a little bit too much to ask of anyone, so we reduced those to three,” he said.

Council on Thursday gave an initial OK to an ordinance outlining the change. The measure will have to be voted on again before it is formally enacted.

Earlier this year, council approved reducing the board from seven to five members after difficulties in finding volunteers willing to serve on it.

The recreation board was established in early 2023 and city officials sought volunteers interested in planning activities for all city residents. Krawtz, who is on the board, said the three-year terms will be staggered under the proposal.

”This year, there’ll be two terms up, next year there’ll be one and then in 2027, there’ll be two,” he said.
