A 39-year-old man was killed in a motorcycle crash in Derry Township, Westmoreland County, on Monday afternoon, the county coroner announced.

Shawn Michael Pynos of Johnstown was driving alone on his Yamaha motorcycle west on Route 30 when he left the road and was ejected from his vehicle, Coroner Tim Carson said. He apparently was driving too fast around a sharp bend in the highway, hit an embankment on the right side of the road and went airborne, according to state police.

He was pronounced dead at the scene at 4:40 p.m.

Pynos’ cause of death was blunt force injuries due to a single motorcycle collision. His manner of death was deemed an accident.

Pynos was wearing a helmet at the time of the incident, the coroner said.
