A Blairsville man will serve 18 months on house arrest as part of a probation sentence imposed Monday after he pleaded guilty to providing his cousin the fentanyl used in her 2017 overdose death.

Shawn Ray Jodon, 32, pleaded guilty to a charge of drug delivery resulting in death and three other drug-related offenses as jury selection was set to begin in his trial.

Jodon’s cousin, 22-year-old Brittany Nicole Adamson, overdosed more than four years ago in her Derry Township home and later died at Excela Health Latrobe hospital. According court records, Adamson was found with multiple needle puncture wounds on her hands and 11 empty stamp bags police said once contained fentanyl were found in her purse.

Police said Adamson’s husband told investigators they purchased drugs from Jodon.

Jodon initially rejected a plea deal in which prosecutors agreed to dismiss 13 other related offenses in return for a four-to eight-year prison sentence.

“The commonwealth maintains its position that there has to be some punishment here in the form of incarceration,” said Westmoreland County Assistant District Attorney Adam Barr.

Jodon later pleaded guilty to the most serious offenses after Common Pleas Court Judge Christopher Feliciani said he would not impose a prison sentence.

Feliciani sentenced Jodon to serve seven years on probation, including the house arrest term, and perform 100 hours of community service.

“You’re going to have to live with this for the rest of your life, that your cousin, Brittany, is dead because of your drug involvement,” Feliciani said.
