Jury selected in trial of Penn Hills man accused in deadly Jeannette shooting
Opening statements are expected to begin Tuesday in the murder trial of a Penn Hills man accused of killing a man in Jeannette.
A 12-member jury and two alternates were seated Monday at the Westmoreland County Courthouse to hear evidence in the case against Darrelle Tolbert-McGhee, 30. He is charged with criminal homicide and a firearms offense in connection with the shooting death of 32-year-old Michael Wilson. Police said Wilson of West Mifflin was gunned down in front of the Dollar General store along Clay Avenue on April 13, 2017.
Police said Wilson died from multiple gunshot wounds. Surveillance video from two businesses recorded the moments before and during the fatal shooting, according to prosecutors.
Defense attorney Tim Dawson said Monday that Tolbert-McGhee was not the shooter and was in Florida when Wilson was killed.
Dawson suggested Tolbert- McGhee’s twin brother, Dwayne Lamar Tolbert- McGhee, was the shooter. Dwayne Tolbert-McGhee was shot and killed May 4, 2018, in Wilkinsburg while he was free on bail awaiting a trial in Westmoreland County on drug charges.
Darrelle Tolbert-McGhee’s trial before Judge Meagan Bilik-DeFazio is expected to take about a week.
