Adeline Beighley was a pioneer for Westmoreland County’s probation program.
She served as the county’s lone female probation officer when she was hired in 1978. Nearly a decade later she was promoted to supervisor and in 1997 named as the director of the newly created Juvenile Probation Office, where she has served for the last 22 years.
Beighley, 63, of Washington Township, is retiring this week after 40 years of working for the county.
County commissioners on Thursday honored Beighley with a surprise proclamation, read by Common Pleas Court Judge Michele Bononi, recognizing her four decades of service.
“I truly mean this from the bottom of my heart, I’ve had 40 years of such a wonderful experience and career,” Beighley said.
