The Kenny Ross Auto Group of eight dealerships is supporting area veterans with its pledge to donate $10 to the United Way of Southwestern Pennsylvania for every car sold at the dealerships between Sept. 3 and Oct. 31.

The money donated by Kenny Ross Auto Group will go to the United Way of Southwestern Pennsylvania to assist veterans with transportation, which is a barrier for many to employment, medical treatment and basic needs for their families, according to the United Way.

In 2018-2019, United Way of Southwestern Pennsylvania, through its programs and agency partners, served 8,585 veterans for transportation assistance, employment support, help with meeting basic needs, avoiding utility shutoff and preventing hunger and homelessness, the organization said.

Every $100 donated provides one month of transportation for a veteran, the United Way said in a statement. Kenny Ross is harnessing the power of transportation to ensure veterans are able to make their way forward, especially when returning home from military service, the United Way said.

The Kenny Ross Auto Group, based in North Huntingdon, typically sells about 500 cars a month in September and October, a spokesman said.

That level of sales would result in a donation of $10,000 from the auto group.

“Through this promotion, we are helping veterans the best way we know how — by giving them a lift. We’re creating more than rides, we are creating a lifeline for the people who have dedicated their lives for our country,” said Bruce Schulman, Kenny Ross market chief operating officer.

The total number of veterans helped with the donations from this effort, including the proceeds from sales and donations to KennyRossCares.com, will be calculated at the conclusion of the campaign.

The United Way also is accepting financial contributions at a special donation site for its work with veterans.

The promotion is valid at all Kenny Ross locations: Kenny Ross Chevrolet, Kenny Ross Buick GMC, Kenny Ross Subaru and Kenny Ross Mazda, all in North Huntingdon; Kenny Ross Ford in Adamsburg; Kenny Ross Chevrolet and Kenny Ross Cadillac, both in Somerset; and Kenny Ross Ford South in Castle Shannon.
