Westmoreland County Commissioner Sean Kertes said his job isn’t done.

Kertes, a Republican from Greensburg, has announced his intentions to run for a second term as one of three board members who run county government.

“It’s about moving Westmoreland County in a new and better direction,” Kertes said.

Kertes, 36, is a former deputy in the county treasurer’s office and chief of staff to former county Commissioner Charles Anderson.

He was elected in 2019 to replace his boss on the board and for the last three years has served as its chairman.

Kertes touted efforts during his first term, including support from programs to improve a worker shortfall in Westmoreland County. He noted his creation of a private, nonprofit agency that promotes job training, education and employment opportunities for young residents.

He also pointed to his support county efforts promote tourism in the county and an initiative to remove blight in local communities.

“While I am proud of what I’ve accomplished since I was elected, I would be honored to be given the opportunity to build on those efforts, and to ensure that we remain on a path where Westmoreland County moves into the future with a strong economy, community bonds and a bright future for our young people,” Kertes said. “I vow to continue to serve with honesty and integrity, putting the needs of Westmoreland County residents first.”

Kertes, along with fellow first-term Republican Doug Chew, were endorsed last weekend by the county’s Republican committee in their re-election bids.

Kertes is a 2005 graduate of Hempfield Area High School and a graduate of California University of Pennsylvania.
