North Huntingdon lawyer Kyle Baxter said Friday she will be a candidate for judge this spring to fill one of two vacancies on the Westmoreland County Court of Common Pleas.
Baxter, 51, is a Republican but plans to cross-file to run in both the GOP and Democratic primaries in May.
Baxter practices at her own Greensburg-based law firm handling family court and criminal cases. She previously served as a part-time assistant public defender and as a mediator and parenting coordinator. She previously worked for nearly a decade as a prosecutor in the Westmoreland County District Attorney’s Office.
“My goal is to continue to use my experience to help families that find themselves at the steps of our courthouse to find amicable and fair resolutions to the vast variety of issues that confront them. It would be an honor to bring my extensive experience and qualifications as a litigator, guardian for children and mediation specialist to the bench and provide our families with fair and well-reasoned resolutions,” Baxter said.
She is one of five candidates who have announced campaigns seeking to fill the vacancies on the 11-judge bench. Judge Richard E. McCormick Jr. retired in 2018 and Judge Anthony Marsili left retired at the start of this year.
Baxter is married and has two children.
