A new four-year labor deal was approved this week by Westmoreland commissioners with the union that represents counselors who work at the county jail.

The deal with the International Brotherhood of Teamsters Local 205 includes annual raises of about 3%, according to Westmoreland County Human Resources Director Alexis Bevan.

The union represents six counselors on staff at the jail.

Meanwhile, negotiations are ongoing with the United Mine Workers of America Local 522, the union that represents about 135 guards at the jail. Guards have been working without a contract since the end of December, when the bargaining unit’s contract with the county expired.

“We are still in negotiations… but we are still in open communications,” Bevan said.
