Time to grab your favorite yellow dress out of the closet.

On Friday, Aug. 19, the Latrobe Art Center will host its ninth annual Yellow Tie Gala to kick off the city’s Great American Banana Split Celebration.

Festivities begin at 6 p.m. Attendees will enjoy appetizers made by Ricolita’s Café, a Dairy Queen-sponsored banana split bar and alcoholic beverages, including the event’s signature Banana Split cocktail, which changes every year.

Mike Urick and the Modelaires will provide the entertainment.

“Every year, this gala is a fun way to kick off the Banana Split Celebration with style,” Latrobe Art Center Executive Director Michael Tusay said.

Held on Ligonier Street, the event is primarily outdoors, but there will be limited seating inside, according to Tusay. If bad weather accompanies the gala, the center will set up tents outside.

Tickets are $50 for art center members and $60 for others. Tusay said the gala is an “important fundraiser” for the center’s programming and operations.

Attendees must RSVP by Friday, Aug. 12. Tickets can be purchased online or by calling the center at 724-537-7011.
