Latrobe Council members approve new code enforcement officer

Latrobe council hired a new city code enforcement officer this week..

Daniel Weimer, 52, of Ligonier, was hired. His salary was set at $55,000 per year.

Weimer is among 10 people who applied for the job. He’ll replace Jim Nieusma, who retired.

Weimer has a bachelor’s degree in geography from Lock Haven University of Pennsylvania and earned a master’s in Regional Planning from California University of Pennsylvania, now PennWest California University.

Weimer has 20 years of experience in transportation construction inspection along with experience as a planning coordinator for the Westmoreland County Department of Planning and Development. He was previously employed with PennDOT. Weimer also has experience with property and loan closings working for a title and settlement company.

Weimer also serves as a 1st alternate chairman of the Ligonier Township Planning Commission, and as a board member of board member of the Ligonier Township Municipal Authority. He is a member of the Laurel Hill Cemetery Association and board chairman of the Laughlintown Protective Association.

Weimer also volunteers with the state Game Commission as a hunting and trapping education instructor and with the Laughlintown Community Center.

Bartels said that Weimer will be starting in early September.
