When police went to a Latrobe man’s home Monday to question him about allegedly assaulting a former girlfriend, they found him hiding beneath his sofa, troopers said.

Sean L. Hurley, 35, is charged with harassment, simple assault and terroristic threats in connection with the incident, which police said began in Greensburg 9:30 p.m. Sunday after Hurley offered the woman a ride from the Sheetz store on Harvey Avenue.

The woman went to the state police barracks Monday to report her injuries, including two black eyes, multiple bruises on her face, left arm and an injured ankle. She said Hurley threatened to wreck his car “and kill the both of them” before she was able to flee.

The woman told Trooper Dalton Young that after she got into Hurley’s car, an argument between the pair soon turned physical. Hurley, who was driving along Roseytown Road in Hempfield, “grabbed her head and repeatedly pushed it against the window and dashboard,” she said.

Hurley also “threw food in the victim’s face” during the assault, police said.

After Hurley was discovered by troopers and removed from under the sofa, Young said he agreed to speak to police.

Hurley admitted the pair got into an argument during the drive but denied that the “altercation become physical,” Young wrote in court papers.

Washington Township District Judge Jason Buczak denied Hurley bond and ordered him held in the county prison pending a preliminary hearing May 12.
