A 38-year-old Latrobe man has been jailed for allegedly assaulting a woman and injuring her 2-year-old son, police said.
Louis Anthony Campbell, of 905 Chestnut St., is accused of causing the boy to sustain a lump on his forehead during an incident at a home in the 1900 block of Laveen Street early Saturday.
Officer Michelle Preston said police were called to the scene 5 a.m. Saturday.
Campbell is accused of hitting the boy’s mother in the head and kicking her three times in the ribs.
When police asked about the alleged assault of the boy, Campbell reacted by saying the boy wrapped his hands around Campbell’s neck, Preston said.
“What was I supposed to do?” Campbell allegedly asked Preston.
The mother and son were taken to Excela Latrobe Hospital for treatment, police said.
Campbell is charged with two counts each of simple assault and harassment and a single count of recklessly endangering the welfare of a child.
He was arraigned before Allegheny Township District Judge Cheryl Yakopec and placed in the Westmoreland County Prison on $50,000 bond. A preliminary hearing scheduled for Sept. 9 before Unity District Judge Michael Mahady.
