Republic Services is under contract to collect household garbage in the City of Latrobe.

Beginning Monday, Latrobe will reopen its solid waste transfer station to the public for recycling and to city residents for purchase of garbage stickers.

The station was closed at the beginning of the week because of coronavirus concerns — as was the city municipal building on Jefferson Street, which will remain closed until further notice.

According to city manager Michael Gray, the transfer station will resume normal operating hours of 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. on weekdays and 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Saturdays. Using the designated entrance will keep customers segregated from staff to guard against spread of infectious diseases, Gray said.

Stickers, which must be placed on garbage bags prior to curbside collection by city contractor Republic Services, also may be purchased at the Shop ’n Save supermarket at the Lincoln Road Shopping Center on Lincoln Avenue. The cost is $4 for 10 stickers.

Additional guidelines for recycling and trash collection can be viewed on the city’s website at cityof latrobe.com.

Business during closure

The website also provides directions for conducting other business with the city during the municipal building closure.

Tax payments will be accepted only by mail, addressed to City of Latrobe, P.O. Box 191, Latrobe, PA 15650.

Building, construction and other permit applications will be available on the city website. Completed applications, along with contact information, should be submitted to apowell@cityoflatrobe.com for approval.

To purchase a parking permit or pass, call 724-539-8548, ext. 15.

City administrative staff will be back in their offices Monday and can be reached at 724-539-8548.

Web meeting

Out of concern for public health, city council is encouraging citizens to participate in its Monday agenda session via web conference. Those who choose to attend the 6:30 p.m. meeting in person at the municipal building are asked to follow social distancing guidelines.

The public can join the meeting by phone, at 571-317-3122, or by computer, tablet or smartphone at https://www.gotomeet.me/Roxanne Shadron. Those joining the meeting remotely also will need to enter the access code 298-015-005.
