The Latrobe Area Historical Society will offer two screenings of its newly revised slide show, “Latrobe: The Fabulous 50s,” on Friday and Saturday.

Doors open at 9 a.m. each day at the society headquarters, 416 Weldon St., Latrobe, and the show starts at 9:30 a.m.

Ice cream sundaes will be featured to celebrate July as National Ice Cream Month.

Admission is free, but donations will be accepted.

Supplementing on-street parking spots, on Saturday only, are spaces in the Kelly, Sparber, White and Associates lot at 400 Weldon St.

Images in the show were selected from the society’s collection of vintage photos. Latrobe scenes from the 1950s recently posted on the society’s Facebook page include: Bell Telephone operators at work on the fifth floor of the First National Bank Building at Depot and Ligonier streets; the Dairy Queen ice cream shop, then located at Ligonier Street and Hillview Avenue; Zito’s Raceway; Harry’s Pizza, which opened in 1958; Memorial Stadium, built in 1951, and construction of the Rogers-McFeely Memorial Pool, in 1959, and Adams Memorial Library, in 1954.

The society notes the library was preceded at Chestnut and Ligonier streets by the town’s American Legion post. Today’s Legion building is located several blocks south, at 1811 Ligonier St.
