Latrobe woman, 2 dogs staying with family after fire ravaged her home
A woman and her two German Shepherds are staying with relatives after a fire nearly destroyed her Latrobe home Thursday evening.
Firefighters responded to the blaze shortly after 7 p.m. at 315 Chambers St.
Fire Chief John Brasile said initial investigation indicates it started from a grill on a porch outside the home.
Brasile said the homeowner told crews she was cooking and had turned the grill off prior to leaving.
However, grease and heat gave way to flames, according to the chief, who ruled it an accidental fire.
The woman’s two dogs made it out of the house safely. No injuries were reported.
Brasile said there were no issues with manpower or water supply and the fire was under control within an hour.
The home is believed to be a total loss with more than 60% of it damaged.
The rear of the home was impacted the most, according to the chief.
Crews cleared the scene around 11 p.m.
