Level Green Elementary closes for 14 days after 2 more coronavirus cases
Two more staff members at Level Green Elementary School have tested positive for the coronavirus and the building will be closed for 14 days, according to Penn-Trafford School District Superintendent Matt Harris.
In a message sent to parents Saturday, Harris said the new cases bring the total count at the building to five staffers who have contracted the virus within 14 days. The school will be closed for two weeks under state Department of Education guidelines.
The announcement came three days after district officials said Wednesday that the school would be closed for five days after three staff members tested positive. Harris said the district is awaiting a reopening date for the school from state health and education officials.
Students will have remote instruction during the school closure, he said.
No students have tested positive, Harris said. Only those who have been contacted by the state health department or school nurse should quarantine.
Another elementary school in the district also has seen a positive case. A staff member at Sunrise Elementary tested positive for the virus on Friday. The school is set to reopen Monday.
Penn-Trafford students returned to school Aug. 27 in a hybrid format.
Students in grades K-8 are attending school in person with the first seven Fridays of the year off. High school students have been split into two groups, each attending school on alternate days and having online instruction the rest of the time.
Students can opt into full online learning. A district staff member tested positive for the virus in mid-August.
