Westmoreland Cultural Trust’s “Wings Across Westmoreland” initiative will grant another community its wings.

Ligonier’s piece of art will be revealed at 11 a.m. Jan. 25 at its new home, Town Hall on the Diamond, as part of the 29th annual Ligonier Ice Fest.

The wings will highlight distinct features of the surrounding area, including Idlewild Park, the Diamond and Compass Inn, according to the Cultural Trust.

Wings Across Westmoreland was inspired by a piece of art in WCT’s Art in the Alley, behind Greensburg’s Union Trust Building.

Trust Incubator artist Patrick Mahoney created the piece, which gained popularity on social media via #WCTWings.

Inspired to create sets of wings for other county cities, highlighting what makes each unique, the Trust has since presented wings to Jeannette at Sobel’s Obscure Brewery and Overly’s Country Christmas.

Additional wings are planned for Vandergrift, Mt. Pleasant and Youngwood, the Trust adds.

“As one of the leading art organizations in the county, we strive to reach out to cities beyond Greensburg. Ligonier has a reputation not only (as) a town with a rich history, but a town that promotes originality and embraces creativity,” says April Kopas, Westmoreland Cultural Trust CEO.

“We appreciate the recognition of Westmoreland Cultural Trust, and we are excited to take part in this project. This piece of art will be a treasured reflection of our history and what makes Ligonier a wonderful place to live and visit,” adds Ligonier Mayor Ormond Bellas.
