A Loyalhanna woman is behind bars after state police said she shot her former boyfriend, according to court papers.

Nina L. Lipford, 51, was arraigned Saturday on an attempted homicide charge.

The wounded man, 50, told troopers he was at Lipford’s home on Substation Road early last week when they got into an argument about messages from an unfamiliar woman, according to court papers.

After being asked to leave, the man told police he was putting on his boots when he heard a bang and felt pain in his shoulder, police said. He din’t seek medical attention until Friday at Independence Health Latrobe Hospital.

Troopers searched Lipford’s home that day and said they recovered a handgun.

Lipford admitted to shooting the man during an interview with police. She was denied bail and was being held at the Westmoreland County Prison. An attorney was not listed in court records.

A Feb. 23 preliminary hearing is tentatively scheduled.
