The mail is returning to Tyler Avenue, much to the relief of residents on the small street in Export.

Delivery had been stopped for nearly two months after a mail carrier was reportedly chased and cornered by dogs belonging to one resident.

Council members stepped into the fray last month, when a group of Tyler Avenue residents and borough animal control officer Maria Martin attended a council meeting to discuss the situation.

Mayor Joe Zaccagnini offered to help try and resolve things. On Tuesday, he said mail delivery would be restarted as of Wednesday.

According to neighbors, the dogs’ owner has taken the pets elsewhere and had provided all of the related documentation to both the post office and animal control officer. No charges against the owner have appeared in recent court records.

Kim Webber, who lives on Tyler Avenue, said on Wednesday that she had received her mail.

“I spoke with the post office supervisor yesterday, and it looks like everything has been cleared up,” she said.

Zaccagnini said council plans to meet with Martin to discuss the procedure for addressing these situations in the future.

“I just want to thank everyone on Tyler Avenue,” he said. “I know you guys were at your wit’s end.”
