Maintenance work set for North Irwin Bridge

The bridge connecting North Irwin with the Sheridan Terrace section of North Huntingdon is one of several bridges in Westmoreland County set to have a new coat of epoxy placed on the deck and to have the joint seals replaced, PennDOT said.

The work is to be completed between April and October 2022. During the project, motorists will be able to use the bridge that goes over Paintertown Road.

PennDOT has 22 bridges in Westmoreland County that are scheduled to have similar maintenance work.

The state has not yet awarded contracts for the project.

Irwin council re-elects president

Irwin council has re-elected its leader to preside over the seven-member panel for 2022 and 2023.

Rick Burdelski was chosen president and Michael Yunn was elected vice president.

Council retained Gibson-Thomas Engineering of Latrobe as its engineer. The borough had hired Gibson-Thomas in March 2021, replacing longtime engineer Lucien Bove of Bove Engineering of Youngwood.

Former councilwoman Gail Macioce was appointed to the borough’s zoning hearing board.

Police officer Erik Williams’ resignation was accepted.
