Man arrested after police chase from Rostraver to Monessen
A man is accused of leading police on a chase from Rostraver to Monessen early Sunday, according to court papers.
Isaiah William Jones, 29, who has addresses in Charleroi and Donora, is charged with fleeing from police, driving under the influence, resisting arrest and related offenses.
State police said they spotted a Mitsubishi Mirage pull onto Fellsburg Road at 2:30 a.m. from a gas station without its headlights on. Troopers attempted a traffic stop, but the driver fled through stop sign and turned onto Webster Hollow Road, according to court papers.
Police said the car continued onto Salem Church Road and Route 51 and back on Webster Hollow Road while crossing over the center line numerous times and ignoring stop signs. A trooper was waiting on Route 906 with stop sticks and the driver continued into Monessen at a slower speed after hitting them, according to court papers. Police said the car at one point traveled 83 mph in a 45 mph zone.
The car went the wrong way on East Schoonmaker Avenue, which is a one-way street, and crashed after the pursuing trooper said he used a maneuver to push the fleeing vehicle sideways to end the chase between First and Second streets, according to court papers. Jones was identified as the driver and investigators said he appeared to be under the influence of alcohol.
He was checked out by Mutual Aid at the scene and refused a blood test at Mon Valley Hospital, police said. Jones was arraigned Sunday morning and is free on $5,000 unsecured bail. It was unclear if he was injured in the crash.
Jones’ drivers license had previously been suspended or revoked, but the reason was unclear from court papers. A preliminary hearing is set for April 19. Jones did not have an attorney listed in online court records. He could not be reached.
He pleaded guilty to a count of disorderly conduct last year filed by Rostraver police and was ordered to pay about $300 in fines and costs, according to online court records.
