Man arrested in 2021 Donegal Township wreck that injured 4
State police arrested a Jeannette man who they said was driving without a valid license at the time of a 2021 Donegal Township crash that seriously injured three others, according to court papers.
Shane R. Mowry, 36, is charged with accidents involving death or injury and several summary vehicle citations, including driving on a suspended license.
Troopers were called to the head-on crash involving two vehicles at 4:45 p.m. June 24 on Route 31 near the Hoffers Lane intersection. Mowry and a woman were extricated from a Honda Civic and two others were rescued from a Subaru Crosstrek. All were flown to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh for treatment, police said.
Troopers determined that Mowry was traveling east on Route 31 when the car crossed over the center line and slammed into the Subaru, according to court papers. Police said Mowry’s license was suspended as the result of a drunken driving conviction.
Firefighters cut off the Honda’s driver’s side door and roof to free the pair. A door was removed from the Subaru to rescue the two occupants. The Westmoreland/Fayette/Allegheny County Animal Response Team helped with a dog that had two broken ribs as a result of the crash, according to the group’s Facebook page.
The female passenger told police she allowed Mowry to drive, despite knowing his license was suspended, because she wasn’t able to operate a manual transmission vehicle, according to court papers.
Court records show he was sentenced to six months in jail in February 2020 after his parole was revoked in an initial shorter sentence on the previous DUI charge. The charges were filed by Latrobe police in a 2018 incident.
Mowry was arraigned Thursday on the crash-related charges. He is free on his own recognizance. An April 22 preliminary hearing is set. He could not be reached and an attorney was not listed in online court records.
