An Indiana County man was arrested Monday in connection with a 2017 drug overdose death in Westmoreland County, according to court papers.

Shawn Ray Jodon, 30, of Burrell Township, is accused of providing a fatal dose of fentanyl to his cousin Brittany Nicole Adamson, 22.

State police said Adamson overdosed at a Derry Township home on Dec. 12, 2017 and was pronounced dead at Excela Health Latrobe Hospital. Her boyfriend directed investigators to Jodon, who they met with to buy heroin earlier in the day, according to court papers.

Adamson had needle puncture wounds on her hands and 11 empty stamp bags in her purse, police said. An autopsy report indicated she had a lethal level of fentanyl in her system.

Jodon told investigators he sold Adamson stamp bags marked 7UP believed to contain heroin. Police found those same bags in her purse. A toxicology report indicated Adamson didn’t have any heroin in her blood at the time of her death.

Jodon is charged with drug delivery resulting in death, criminal use of a communication facility and drug offenses. He was being held in the Westmoreland County Prison on $25,000 bail. He did not have an attorney listed in online court records.

A preliminary hearing is set for Dec. 18.
