Man charged after North Huntingdon police said they spotted him using drugs while driving on Route 30

An Allegheny County man accused in a drug overdose death was arrested Wednesday in connection with an incident last month during which North Huntingdon police reported seeing him using drugs while driving on Route 30.

Cases against Jason Alan Lewis, 45, of Boston, Pa., have been racking up in the past two months.

He was charged this week with misdemeanor drug offenses and driving on a suspended license. Lewis has been held without bail in the Westmoreland County Prison since May 3 on another case, and District Judge Wayne Gongaware again denied bail Wednesday, deeming him a “danger to society,” according to online court records.

Township police reported spotting a Honda Pilot traveling east on Route 30 at 2:18 p.m. April 13. The driver, who was later identified as Lewis, had a straw hanging out of his nose and appeared to be snorting something from a flat surface, according to court papers.

An officer followed the SUV and saw the driver appear to be using the straw to snort something at a red light at the intersection of Colonial Manor Road. During a traffic stop, Lewis handed the officer three stamp bags, according to court papers.

Police said they found 46 stamp bags of suspected heroin in a mug containing ice, drug paraphernalia and an electronic tablet with a white powder residue inside the vehicle.

Lewis did not have an attorney listed online court records. A June 9 preliminary hearing is set.

Three other cases filed against Lewis in the last two months are pending, according to online court records. He is facing drug delivery resulting in death charges in connection with a January fatal overdose of a 46-year-old woman in North Huntingdon. He also is charged with reckless endangerment in connection with a March overdose in Murrysville and another May drug case filed by sheriff’s deputies stemming from an incident in New Stanton.
