A 20-year-old West Newton man was ordered held in the county prison after failing to post $10,000 bond Friday on charges of assaulting a physically-challenged man and damaging a police car.

George R. Babilya was arraigned on charges of disorderly conduct, harassment, institutional vandalism, making terroristic threats, reckless endangerment and simple assault after the incident Thursday in the victim’s apartment in Huntingdon Village in East Huntingdon.

Trooper Matthew Cunningham said the 60-year-old victim, who needs assistance to stand and walk, was discovered laying on the floor by neighbors after they saw Babilya run from the apartment. Cunningham said the victim told him that he was “physically attacked” by Babilya, who knocked him to the floor before fleeing the apartment.

Cunningham said troopers found Babilya later at his West Newton residence. When troopers took Babilya into custody and handcuffed him, “he became irate,” Cunningham said.

According to court documents, Babilya spit on the windshield of the patrol car and the computer inside the car. Cunningham said Babilya also threatened a trooper as he was taken into custody.

Babilya has no prior criminal record in Pennsylvania, according to on-line dockets.

He did not have an attorney listed in court documents.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled Feb. 3.
