A 33-year-old man broke into his mother’s flower shop in Bolivar to steal money from a safe, Pennsylvania State Police said.

The son of the owner of K&K Flowers was arrested late Sunday by state troopers, according to court documents.

Chad E. Botteicher, 33, of Seward was arraigned Monday on charges of burglary, theft and criminal trespass. He was ordered held in the Westmoreland County Prison on $10,000 bail.

Trooper Sean Kelley reported he was dispatched to investigate a burglary “in progress” at the shop at 739 Lincoln St. at 9:50 p.m. Sunday.

When Kelley arrived, he said, he discovered Botteicher at the closed store, and Botteicher admitted he had tried but failed to open a safe. Botteicher told Kelley he entered the building through a kitchen door and attempted “to obtain money” from the safe.

Kelley reported that Botteicher’s mother, Kim, who owns the store, said, “Chad does not have permission to be inside the store.”

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Friday.
