Man jailed after police say he tossed drugs out of window during high-speed chase that ended in East Huntingdon
State troopers recovered crack cocaine, suspected heroin and marijuana that they said a driver tossed along Route 119 during a high-speed chase in Westmoreland County early Sunday, according to court papers.
The driver — Jonah K. Reid, 30, of East Pittsburgh — was apprehended in East Huntingdon, police said.
Troopers on patrol after 2 a.m. said they spotted a Jeep Cherokee swerving on Route 30 west in Hempfield and tried to pull it over. The SUV initially stopped near the Route 136 exit ramp but sped away on the highway and ran a red light while turning onto South Greengate Road, according to court papers.
The driver got onto Route 136, Toll Route 66 and Route 119 southbound when police said several items were thrown out of the passenger side window. Troopers used their vehicle to push the fleeing vehicle sideways to end the pursuit after the SUV exited at Technology Drive, according to court papers.
Both Reid and his female passenger refused to get out, police said. The woman was not charged. Reid’s driver’s license previously was suspended or revoked.
Reid is being held at the Westmoreland County Prison on $75,000 bail. He is charged with fleeing from police, possession with intent to deliver, driving under the influence and related offenses.
He did not have an attorney listed in online court records. A March 29 preliminary hearing is set.
Reid is on probation in Allegheny County in connection with drug charges filed by Pittsburgh police stemming from an April 2020 incident, according to online court records. He was sentenced to nine months probation in November.
