A boil water advisory was lifted Saturday morning for about 3,500 Municipal Authority of Westmoreland County customers in the Jeannette, Penn Township and Irwin areas.

Authority officials said an issue with drinking water has been corrected after crews this week repaired a waterline break in Jeannette. The break happened sometime Monday, but the repairs were difficult because the problem was in a line buried 22 feet underground and encased in concrete.

The transmission line moves water from the Beaver Run Reservoir in Bell Township to the central part of Westmoreland County. Eighteen inches of pipe were replaced in work that was completed Wednesday.

The advisory was necessary as officials monitored water for contaminants following the repairs.

Affected were customers in parts of Penn Township, Jeannette, Penn Borough, Manor, portions of North Huntingdon, the villages of Biddle, Wegley and Westmoreland City, Irwin, Adamsburg and surrounding areas.
