Veterans from the American Legion Post 711 of Murrysville and AMVETS Post 85 of White Valley participate in an honor roll ceremony on last year at the veterans’ memorial at Murrysville Community Park. Memorial Day activities in the area have been modified because of coronavirus concerns.

Memorial Day will be a bit more low-key than in previous years for residents in Murrysville, Export and Delmont, due to restrictions in place to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

“They will be very limited this year, with the roll call and no speakers, and we’ll be keeping to social distancing,” Murrysville Mayor Regis Synan said.

The White Valley AMVETS Honor Guard will host short programs at the following cemeteries:

• Murrysville Presbyterian Church cemetery, 9 a.m.

• Emmanuel Reformed United Church of Christ (Hills Church), 9:30 a.m.

• Twin Valley Cemetery, 10:30 a.m.

• Grandview Cemetery, 11:30 a.m.

• White Valley AMVETS, noon

Services will be shorter this year, and the honor guard will perform only the “Honor and Remembrance” program.

The official Memorial Day parade through Export will not take place however, the AMVETS Honor Guard will be passing through Washington Avenue after the services held at Twin Valley Cemetery.

“This year has been hard on all of us, and with this being the 75th anniversary of the end of World War II, we will remember all of our fallen comrades, and all of those who are still serving our country with honor and dignity,” White Valley AMVETS officials said in a statement posted to their Facebook page.
