A Monessen man was indicted by a federal grand jury after federal and state investigators said he was in possession of drugs on three occasions, according to court papers unsealed Monday.

Rashawn Ford, 27, is charged with possession with intent to distribute, possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime and possession of a firearm and ammunition by a convicted felon.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation and Pennsylvania State Police worked together on the case, according to federal prosecutors. Ford was found in possession of heroin and fentanyl on March 13 and 14, 2021, and fentanyl on Aug. 4, the indictment states.

On those dates, he is accused of having a gun and ammunition. Ford has previous felony convictions in Westmoreland County which prohibit him from possessing a firearm, prosecutors said.

Ford was arrested Saturday and made an initial appearance in federal court Monday, according to court records. A detention hearing is set for Wednesday. Prosecutors are seeking he be detained until trial.
