A Monessen man died after a motorcycle crash Friday in Washington County, according to state police.

Dennis Sepesy, 60, was headed north on Route 43 in California just after 8 p.m. when he drove his Harley-Davidson onto the side of the road near milepost 32, police said. After one-tenth of a mile, he lost control of the motorcycle and crashed.

He was taken to Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh where he was pronounced dead at 1:15 a.m. Saturday, according to the Allegheny County Medical Examiner.

In 2020, there were about 3,400 crashes on Pennsylvania roads involving motorcycles, according to PennDOT statistics. Approximately 20% of them involved a fatality.

In 2019, there were 2,977 crashes involving a motorcycle and 174 people died, statistics show.

A GoFundMe online donation page had raised about 2,400 as of Tuesday afternoon.
