A Monessen man will serve more than five years in federal prison after his conviction on drug charges, U.S. Attorney Eric Olshan announced Thursday.

Daniel Smith, 41, was part of a conspiracy to distribute cocaine between June 2020 and July 2021, which involved residents of Brownsville as well as Chicago, according to federal prosecutors.

Olshan said Smith obtained more than 3 kilograms of cocaine from a Chicago-based supplier, redistributing it among drug crews in the greater Pittsburgh area.

After a 63-month prison sentence imposed by U.S. District Judge Christy Wiegand, Smith will have four years of supervised release.

State police, Perryopolis police and the FBI took part in the investigation.
