A Monessen woman was sentenced this week to two to four years in a state prison on an aggravated assault charge in connection with the stabbing of her neighbor.

Prosecutors dismissed attempted homicide and related charges against Tiffany Grogan-Howard, 38, on Wednesday, according to a court order. The stabbing was reported on Nov. 25, 2019, at Highland Manor on 10th Street.

Police said then that Grogan-Howard stabbed a woman at least 10 times. The woman was flown by medical helicopter to a Pittsburgh hospital for treatment of head, neck and arm wounds.

The stabbing was precipitated by the woman’s refusal to loan Grogan-Howard money, according to court papers. Two other women who were there attempted to stop the stabbing and were hurt.

Grogan-Howard has been incarcerated since her arrest the same day. Her bond was set at $250,000 in January by Judge Christopher Feliciani after being denied bond during her arraignment, according to online court records. Another attempt to have the amount lowered in September was rejected.

A hearing had been set for Wednesday on Grogan-Howard’s nominal bond request filed this month after claiming her right to a speedy trial had been violated. She was released Wednesday to a detainer from Washington County authorities and was ordered to report to the Westmoreland County Prison Jan. 8 to begin serving her state sentence.

Feliciani granted Grogan-Howard furlough to a relative’s house until that date and required that she report to the Westmoreland County probation office three times a week and abide by a curfew, according to the sentencing order. As of Thursday, she remained in the Westmoreland County Prison, according to jail records.
