Nearly 150 emergency service vehicles in Westmoreland County got a thorough cleaning for free last month from Premier Automation in Monroeville.

Nine employees at the engineered solutions company volunteered for more than a week to clean 148 fire trucks, police cars, ambulances and other vehicles, according to an announcement from Premier Automation. They used the company’s HydroCleaner, which was developed to sanitize Premier’s facility, but adapted to help those on the frontlines of the coronavirus pandemic.

“This is a chance to show appreciation for what these men and women dedicate to ensure our safety and well being,” said Josh Miller, Premier Automation group leader. “As a nurse myself, I have seen firsthand what these people risk and it is nice to be able to help them for a change.”

Ambulance services across the region have increased the cleaning of their trucks during the pandemic in an effort to slow the spread of the virus.

The HydroCleaner uses a power sprayer to distribute a fine mist of cleaning solution. It is available for sale or rent.
