More than 30% of Westmoreland County covid cases, deaths have come in December

December continues to become the worst month of the pandemic statistically in Westmoreland County.

With Tuesday’s new reported covid cases and deaths, there have been 5,541 cases and 105 deaths reported so far this month. The December figures make up 37% and 34% of totals, respectively.

There were 542 new cases and 10 new deaths reported Tuesday. Total cases and total deaths in the county are now 14,802 and 304, respectively.

New records for seven-day statistics have been set as of Tuesday, as well. The seven-day death total is 62. The seven-day case total is 3,135 and the seven-day case average is 448 per day.

To put December’s covid numbers in perspective, here are total cases and deaths by month for December and the three months prior:

Dec. 1-15: 5,541 cases, 105 deaths

November: 4,789 cases, 96 deaths

October: 2,195 cases, 47 deaths

September: 462 cases, 7 deaths

As of Tuesday, there are 164 covid-19 patients hospitalized in Westmoreland County, with 24 in the ICU and 16 on ventilators. There are 24 ICU and 24 medical/surgical beds available in the county, which equates to 26% and 8%, respectively.
