1 injured after tractor-trailer fire at New Stanton exit of Turnpike
One person was injured after a tractor-trailer carrying vehicles burned for more than an hour after the trailer rolled over early Sunday along a Pennsylvania Turnpike off-ramp near the New Stanton exit.
Emergency responders were dispatched to the westbound off-ramp in Westmoreland County shortly after 2:30 a.m., according to the Youngwood Volunteer Fire Department. Firefighters confirmed that numerous vehicles were on fire.
It took more than an hour for firefighters to put out the blaze.
The injured person was taken to the hospital, according to TribLive newspartner WTAE. Part of the trailer was heavily damaged.
South Greensburg Volunteer Fire Department remained on standby during the incident.
Man hospitalized after Sheraden stabbing
One man was hospitalized Sunday night after he was stabbed in the buttocks in Sheraden.
Shortly after 10 p.m., Pittsburgh police and EMS responded to the reported stabbing in the 2700 block of Zephyr Avenue, police spokeswoman Emily Bourne said.
Two women, who police did not name, were arguing and one of them was bitten, Bourne said. Thinking it had been the man, who police also did not name, she stabbed him.
The man suffered a single stab wound to the buttocks and was taken to an area hospital in stable condition, Bourne said.
Police plan to charge all three people with simple assault, Bourne said.
Pittsburgh services impacted by MLK holiday
Trash collection and hours at Pittsburgh’s senior centers and recreational facilities will be impacted Monday because of the observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
City offices and facilities will be closed Monday and refuse collection will be delayed one day because of the holiday, said Olga George, a spokeswoman for Mayor Ed Gainey.
Residents with a scheduled Monday collection day will be served Tuesday, Tuesday on Wednesday and so on, through Saturday, George said.
The city’s healthy active living senior centers are closed Monday. So are city recreation centers and Pittsburgh Public Schools’ After-School Feeding Program, or CACFP, George said. Normal operations will resume Tuesday.
The Mellon Park tennis bubble will remain open from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday, she said.
