Morning Roundup: 18 arrested as guns, drugs seized in McKeesport; infections reported in Monessen school

18 arrested as guns, drugs seized in McKeesport

A joint operation between local and state authorities in the McKeesport area this summer yielded 18 arrests, 17 firearms and about $40,000 worth of cocaine, according to Attorney General Dave Sunday’s office.

Those charged are: Rontay Strothers, Michael Hunter, Tara Fender, Bailey Loveday, Brandon Dellapenna, Franklin Gribschaw, Jaquan Smith, Marcel Freeman, Oji Pride, Tavion Hurt, Trevon McCrary, Andre Fuller, Chance McIver, Derrick Blake, Edward Dudley, John Hopper, Marsean Scott and Noah Hamlin.

In addition to the $40,000 worth of cocaine; investigators also seized quantities of heroin, fentanyl and marijuana, according to the AG’s office.

Guns seized range from handguns to AR-15 assault rifles, according to the AG’s office. Ammunition was also recovered.

The arrests were part of the “Summer Suppression” initiative, aimed at reducing drug dealing and illegal firearms in the McKeesport area, according to the AG’s office.


Hand, foot and mouth disease reported in Monessen school

The Monessen City School District has reported five cases of Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease at the district’s elementary school, according to a letter from Superintendent Robert Motte.

Motte said the district’s custodial staff is thoroughly deep-cleaning and disinfecting of all classrooms, common areas, restrooms and high-touch surfaces throughout the building. School buses and vehicles are also deep-cleaned and sanitized daily.

Motte’s letter said the district will continue to provide updates.
