Cooling centers open in Allegheny, Westmoreland

After issuing a heat advisory Tuesday, Allegheny County will keep its cooling centers open Wednesday as temperatures reach into the upper 80s.

Cooling centers will be open in Allegheny County from 8 a.m.-7 p.m. Locations include:

• CitiParks - Beechview, Center 1555 Broadway Ave.

• CitiParks - Brighton Heights Center, 3515 McClure Ave.
• CitiParks - South Side, 12th & Bingham streets
• CitiParks - Greenfield, 745 Greenfield Ave.

• CitiParks - Homewood, 7321 Frankstown Ave.
• CitiParks - Sheraden Center, 720 Sherwood Ave.

• Elizabeth Seton Center, 1900 Pioneer Ave., Brookline
• LifeSpan - Clairton, 530 Miller Ave., Clairton
• LifeSpan - Mon Valley Olympia Park Shopping Center, 4313 Walnut St., McKeesport
• NAMS - Sharpsburg, 209 13th St.
• NAMS - Tarentum, 704 Second Ave., Suite 100-B

Four hospitalized in Fayette fire

Four people were rescued from a Fayette County home that caught fire early Wednesday morning, according to Fayette EMS Chief Rick Adobato.

Fayette EMS and at least four fire departments were dispatched to a residence along Miles Road in Dunbar’s Adelaide village just before 1:30 a.m., Adobato said. Firefighters rescued four adults from the home.

“My impression is it was a very smoky fire,” Adobato said. “We got there, the fire department pulled on scene and initiated rescue.”

Three people — one woman and two men — were flown to UPMC Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh for treatment.

Fayette EMS initially took the woman to Penn-Highlands Connellsville Hospital, addressing her for cardiac arrest on the way. She was flown to UPMC Mercy from there, Adobato said.

The two men were flown directly to UPMC Mercy from the scene to be treated for smoke inhalation and burns. A fourth person, a man, was taken to Uniontown Hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation and minor burns, Adobato said.

The health status of the four patients is unknown, he said.

“The firemen did a great job,” Adobato said. “So did my people.”

South Side entertainment patrol figures released

Pittsburgh police released the latest arrest and citation figures in the South Side entertainment patrol, which monitors the East Carson Street corridor. Data released is for July 9-13.

There were 17 traffic stops, five traffic citations, 10 parking citations, seven tows, 23 non-traffic arrests, nine arrests and two firearms seized, according to Pittsburgh police.

The majority of the non-traffic arrests were offenses such as open containers, public urination, disorderly conduct, public drunkenness and possession of or smoking marijuana, according to police.
