Morning Roundup: Funeral service set for Belle Vernon Area student

Funeral set at Belle Vernon Area High School

A funeral service is scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Belle Vernon Area High School in Rostraver for the 6-year-old girl killed Friday morning when hit by a car while running across a street to catch a Belle Vernon Area school bus.

Aria Mae Woznick of North Belle Vernon, a daughter of Timothy and Amanda Woznick, was a kindergarten student at Marion Elementary School. She was with her older siblings and friends when she ran across Fayette Street and was hit by a car. The youngster was flown to UMPC Children’s Hospital in Pittsburgh, where she died Friday afternoon.

North Belle Vernon police and state police investigated the incident.

A bingo to benefit the family of Aria Woznick was held Sunday at the North Belle Vernon fire department social hall.

Families and friends will be received from 2 to 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Ferguson Funeral Home and Crematory, 700 Broad Ave., North Belle Vernon. The services will be inside the Belle Vernon Area High School auditorium at 425 Crest Ave., with the Rev. Bobbie Hineline of the Latrobe United Church of Christ officiating. Interment will be in Belle Vernon Cemetery at a later date.

Rainy day Monday

Monday’s weather will get us ready for March, which supposedly comes roaring in like a lion.

Showers are forecast, mainly in the afternoon, with a high near 50 degrees. It will be breezy, with an east wind ranging from 5- to-10 mph, then gusting to 16-to-21 mph in the afternoon, according to the National Weather Service in Moon. The region may get between ¼-inch and a ½-inch of rain.

Monday evening is not expected to be much better, with showers before 2 a.m. Tuesday, then a slight chance of showers after 3 a.m. Steady temperatures will be in the upper 40s, but it will be breezy, with a southeast wind of 15-to-22 mph, then coming in from the west after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 32 mph.

Tuesday is expected to be dry with a high temperature of 48 degrees, the weather service said, but it could feel cooler with a west wind of 10-to-20 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph.
