Teen injured in rollover crash near Saltsburg

A 17-year-old boy was taken to a hospital for evaluation Saturday after almost crashing into the Conemaugh River near Saltsburg, state police said in a news release issued Monday.

The crash happened around 1:15 p.m. on the Loyalhanna side of the river after the Nissan Rogue the boy was driving went off Route 981, became airborne, hit a tree and rolled multiple times down a steep embankment, troopers said.

The SUV stopped just feet from the water’s edge where the driver got out. Firefighters from Saltsburg got him in a boat and took him across the river where he was taken by Murrysville Medic One to AHN Forbes Hospital in Monroeville.

The teen sustained minor injuries, police said.
