Mt. Pleasant Glass Centre at full capacity

Westmoreland County has filled its eighth industrial park.

Officials this week leased the last available lot in the Mt. Pleasant Glass Centre, which houses seven tenants and 116 employees.

“We are thrilled to see Mt. Pleasant Glass Centre at full occupancy. It has proven to be a great area to have a business, and we are happy to see yet another of our sites being utilized to its fullest potential,” said Commissioner Gina Cerilli.

Commissioners, acting as the Westmoreland County Industrial Development Corp. board of directors, signed off on the lease with Life’s a Beach USA to lease 1,400 square feet in the industrial park. The company said it will use the space as an operations center for inventory, supplies and storage. The Mt. Pleasant-based company counts Idlewild & SoakZone, Kennywood Park and the Gateway Clipper Fleet as clients.

The 156,000-square-foot park in Mt. Pleasant Township is located just off Route 31 and eight miles from the Pennsylvania Turnpike. It is one of 19 industrial parks owned by the Westmoreland County Industrial Development Corp. Two parks — the Commerce Crossing at Westmoreland and the Derry Business Park — are under construction.

Commerce Crossing, a 200-plus acre site off Waltz Mill Road in Sewickley Township, will include five pad-ready sites — ranging in size from 18 to 29 acres — with easy access to Interstate 70 and the region’s international rail network. Originally proposed in 2012, officials broke ground on the project in late October.

Al. Neyer, Cincinnati-based real estate development firm, has agreed to pay $3.2 million to buy two lots totaling 53 acres.

The 19 acre Derry Business Park, located between West Third Street and the railroad, is on the site where Westinghouse Electric Corporation and Industrial Ceramics once operated.
